The business is extremely well capitalised, with an agressive growth strategy over the next 5 years.

To prepare the Group for its next stage of growth, the Finance Manager, Capital Investment is a newly created role to ensure the business achieves a maximum return on investment from its substantial capital investment programme. The role will support the FD, Capital Investment with the development and review of projects, and providing insightful analysis and reporting, acting as a key participant in monthly investment committees, ensuring investment proposals adhere to Group Capex and Opex policies.

Specific responsibilities will include

  • Partner operational teams to develop CapEx plans
  • Review Group delivery plans and timetable, enquiring about and challenging any deviations to plan and cost
  • Run monthly actual and forecast reviews, challenging and supporting the results & forecasts, and consolidating key variances to budget and forecast
  • Review current reporting processes and controls to identify weakness and implement subsequent remedies
  • Review capitalisation rates of staff across the Group
  • Work with the PMO and wider finance teams to develop reporting solutions to improve the accuracy and control of the reporting of existing projects, including regular reconciliation with the general ledger
  • Scope system requirements and advise on improvements to manage and report on CapEx
  • Work with the Finance Systems Manager to assist with the implementation of new reporting solutions
  • Act as financial liaison between finance, commercial and various operational teams, as well as with senior management
  • Act as a central capital investment expert to both operational sites and project managers, offering advice and thought leadership on best practice

The successful candidate will have a first class academic record along with a recognised professional accounting qualification. Prior experience in FP&A or commercial finance would be ideal, with proven ability to draw conclusions and recommendatioins through the analysis of complex information. A track record in a capital intensive industry is essential, including real estate, infrastructure, telecoms, utilities and construction, ideally with experience supporting large CapEx programmes. Applicants will need to be motivated self-starters, with a positive and proactive attitude to all challenges, good attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines whilst achieving defined targets. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, to operate in an intelligent and articulate manner whilst business partnering and building relationships at all levels in the company.
